Working in the oil and gas industry is exciting, but it can also be dangerous. Oil fields have heavy moving machines, high-pressure pipes, hot surfaces, and flammable fuels. Because safety is the top priority, every worker must wear Personal Protective Equipment, commonly known as PPE. PPE acts as a personal shield that protects workers from everyday workplace hazards.
The most visible piece of gear is the hard hat. This rigid plastic helmet protects a worker’s head from falling tools, swinging chains, or low metal pipes. Workers also wear safety glasses with side shields to protect their eyes from flying dust, chemical splashes, and sparks. Earplugs or noise-reducing earmuffs protect their hearing from loud drilling engines and humming pumps.
On their bodies, workers wear flame-resistant coveralls. These special one-piece suits do not catch fire easily and protect the skin from flash fires and burns. On their feet, workers wear heavy leather boots with steel toe caps and non-slip rubber soles. These boots stop heavy objects from crushing toes and prevent slips on wet steel decks. Wearing proper PPE ensures that every worker returns home safely to their family.
